Our life as a Christian in this world is similar to the life of a witness who has to testify in a major trial. And just as a witness must be prepared to take the stand; so must we be prepared with the help of the Church. The Church also provides the service of "witness protection". Those who have repented need to be protected from intimidation before their testimony and retaliation after.
